KIEV, May 28 (Xinhua) -- Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Thursday that Ukraine is counting on receiving the first batch of Sweden's Gripen fighter jets within the next 10 months, the Interfax-Ukraine news agency reported.
"It is important that these are aircraft with the appropriate set of weapons. This will help, among other things, our defense against Russian guided bombs," Zelensky told reporters.
Ukraine hopes to buy a total of 150 Gripen jets from Sweden, Zelensky said.
He added that Kiev plans to use part of the 90-billion-euro (about 105 billion U.S. dollars) loan from the European Union to finance the purchase.
In October 2025, Ukraine and Sweden signed a letter of intent concerning cooperation in the field of air capabilities.
