MINSK, Dec. 3 (Xinhua) -- The European Union (EU) demonizes and blames Belarus for the global migration crisis while ignoring the true causes, the Belarusian Foreign Ministry said on Thursday.

The ministry opposed the EU's adoption of the next package of sanctions, according to a report by Belta News Agency, citing a statement from the ministry.

It said that EU officials are imposing sanctions which go against common sense, facts provided, technical consultations launched and additional measures taken by the Belarusian side to curb illegal migration.

Moreover, the package of sanctions hurts Belarusian enterprises that have nothing to do with the migration crisis.

The Belarusian Foreign Ministry said it intends to take tough retaliatory measures and warned the EU that pressure due to further sanctions might pose danger to regional stability and security.

On Dec. 2, the EU, the United States, Britain and Canada introduced new sanctions against Belarus.

The sanctions affected 20 individuals, 12 entities and three aircraft, in particular the Belarusian Potash Company and the President's Sports Club.

According to Russia's RIA Novosti news agency, the organizations and individuals included in the sanctions list are accused of "providing for the smuggling of migrants into the EU and taking part in the suppression of human rights."
